SAFENOWPROJECT began as a nonprofit with a national focus in 2005. Its original mission was to create, promote and advocate community-based strategies and resources to eliminate child sexual abuse. The organization received endorsements from the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA), Major County Sheriffs Association and other national groups after donating a complete curriculum on sex offender management to NSA for the Neighborhood Watch program, launched a new mascot for child safety and protection, referred to as “Molly Meerkat®” and partnered on a life skills manual titled, “MY LIFEMATTERS” with Dr. Margaret O'Rourke.

In late 2009, the organization, continuing their dedication to reduce a person’s vulnerability for victimization, decided to refocus their attention and resources specifically to serving the crime victim population. After years of receiving calls, emails and requests for assistance from victims and families living in and around their new hometown headquarters of Chillicothe, MO, a decision was made to restructure and redefine the organization’s mission and goals. In summer 2010, SAFENOWPROJECT re-launched as a local nonprofit with a new mission—to the create, promote and deliver of a comprehensive range of compassionate victim services focused on victim safety from re-victimization, priority access to resources and services, enforced victim rights and victim advocacy.
